Maria Lynn Releases New Lyric Video For “Why Do I”
New York, NY (June 18, 2021) - Indie pop singer-songwriter Maria Lynn has dropped a new lyric video to accompany her latest single “Why Do I.” Originally released on May 14th, 2021, the emotional ballad chronicles the rising artist’s struggles with toxic relationships, self love, and mental illness. This video, designed by Sophie Kimura, Lainey Rothschild, and Kiana Menguita marks Maria Lynn’s first visual release with SoundCloud since signing to their new distribution service Repost.
The heart-wrenching lyrics of “Why Do I” are depicted underneath an animated visual of the singer balancing on a tightrope over a cityscape in reference to the song’s chorus: “Why do I stay so busy loving someone other than myself / Pledge allegiance to my future, but my past keeps coming out / Walk on tightropes over cities too high up to hear your sounds / Why Do I, Why Do I.“
The scenery is constantly changing and she is continuously walking, yet it seems the animated character of Maria Lynn can never actually move forward. Maria grapples to keep her balance, and this frustrating inability to make progress on her journey represents her struggle to move past the toxic habits of the relationship referenced in “Why Do I”.
Thoughtful verses accompany the catchy chorus as Maria Lynn explains to her listeners how she confronted this deeply painful inner conflict. Her unapologetic vulnerability provides her audience with a deeply personal and relatable message as she reflects on the aspects of being in a toxic relationship, the difficulty of escaping it, and the effect it had on her mental health. The “Why Do I” lyric video brings about another layer of depth to a situation that is often much more complicated than it appears.
“The inner battle for self love is not a blatantly obvious one,” says Maria Lynn. “This video is meant to provide comfort for those who are confronting this invisible conflict on their own. You are not alone, and it is going to get better.”
Maria Lynn’s newest lyric video “Why Do I” is now available on YouTube, TIDAL, and Apple Music.
