INDIE-POP ARTIST SHIRA LUCÉ RELEASES DEBUT SINGLE “DREAM STATE” CHRONICLING HER MENTAL HEALTH & SPIRITUAL JOURNEY
Pop vocalist Shira Lucé, who previously recorded as Jacqueline Paolino releases new single “Dream State” on June 25, a tune chronicling her transformative journey to healing, enlightenment and spirituality.
The mid-tempo pop/rock track is her debut as Shira Lucé, all about how she disassociated from herself and from the world around her. She waxes about wearing Jackie O’s (sunglasses) covering her “sad eyes” walking down the streets of New York, feeling like a complete shell of herself.
“I was living in Manhattan working in finance feeling so out of place and disconnected from myself”, says Lucé. “At the end of the day, I would go for walks in my work clothes wearing big sunglasses, looking at my reflection in a store window and I could hardly recognize who I was, feeling lost and hopeless ”.
It’s a relatable feeling for so many in a big city, especially New York. The loneliness factor is a major one, only heightened in the midst of a global pandemic with little social interaction, connection or acknowledgement in any way. Shira hopes to bring to the surface many of her emotional and mental health struggles in her music, freeing others to relate and discuss the topics from a place of growth as well as healing. After all, she adopted the Hebrew name Shira, meaning “Song” during her conversion as well as the Italian word for light, “luce” written as Lucé.
“The pandemic, while dark and overwhelming at times, allowed me to feel compassion for the collective, who were experiencing mental health struggles for the first time in the way I had felt for much of my life”, says Lucé. “Hopefully someone out there who feels the way I did will realize that healing and happiness are possible and that it’s never too late to heal, love yourself and follow your dreams”.
Lucé has done just that. A musical spirit since a young age, Lucé is not limited to genre, and though she has largely recorded jazz and standards, her musical palette also infuses pop and rock music. The numbing, dissociated feelings she felt for many years are articulated in “Dream State”, a message that many may relate to having been frozen in time over the last fifteen months. The first half of the song illuminates the misery while the second half resolves itself with Shira rediscovering her truth. The cloak and sunglasses float away, no longer shielding her and the accompanying single artwork offers one sole flower, representing Shira and the new life she continues to build for herself.
In addition to “Dream State”, a new Spotify page under her artist persona Shira Lucé will live on the platform for all to hear as well as upcoming single “The Buddha Is Stone”, coming in July. Another personal favorite called “The Light” will be released in the fall, a song that captures Shira’s overall mindset and her spiritual meaning.
“Dream State” and other music will be available on major DSPs including Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL and Deezer and can be easily accessed at https://ffm.to/shiradreamstate
